The government is invited to proceed cautiously before generalizing a “screening” of patients at the entrance to emergency services. If the measures for “regulating” access to the emergency room are “a common sense response” to the influx of patients and the “tensions” in the hospital, they are “very far” from the habits of patients in France, underlines the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (Igas), in a report made public on Monday.

The Inspectorate had been instructed by the government to assess the effectiveness of the cocktail of measures adopted in July to allow hospitals not to find themselves overwhelmed this summer due to staff shortages. Developed by François Braun, ex-pilot of a “flash mission” on the subject, promoted to Minister of Health, this package of around forty recommendations provided in particular for better regulation of admissions to emergencies, by a person at the entrance service or by the Samu (emergency number 15). And this, until the end of September.
