In October 2020, during the first year of government, the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) announced on its website that the cost of the work on the Hospital del Cerro would be $3 million. This hospital was inaugurated days ago by President Luis Lacalle Pou and other authorities of the organization.
At that time, the president of ASSE, Leonardo Cipriani, inspected the Cerro Auxiliary Center, where the construction of the hospital would take place. On that occasion, it was highlighted that the building would have similarities with the structure of the State Insurance Bank.
Years later, on November 6, the president inaugurated the first hospital center in the west of Montevideo, with an area of 2,471 square meters. The establishment has surgical blocks, hospitalization rooms, a laboratory and hemotherapy service, according to official information.
The Cerro hospital cost five times more than what was announced
The Presidency portal assures that the total investment exceeded 16 million dollars. Of this figure, approximately 15 million were allocated to the remodeling of the health center and the SAME 105 base, while the rest was invested in technical equipment.
This place, also known as “Polo de Salud del Cerro”, will improve the ambulance departure infrastructure and will house an office of the Ministry of Development (Mides) and a Civil Identification office.
It is relevant to note that this hospital is located on land given on loan by the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU). In this new space, 229 additional employees will work, who will join the 128 who already performed functions at the polyclinic.
