Inter-institutional cooperation allows strengthening the equipment of health establishments

The Hospital de Especialidades Eugenio Espejo (HEEE) of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) in the framework of inter-institutional cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Ecuador, received the donation of a state-of-the-art automated craniotome for the neurosurgery.

This technological support will serve to solve, fundamentally, cases of head trauma and tumors, allowing comprehensive care to be provided to patients in conditions of human mobility. The donation is valued at USD USD 31,249.93 dollars.

The HEEE in 2022 provided 10,000 services to migrant patients and so far in 2023, more than 1,500 medical services have been registered.

Andrés Corral, hospital manager, stated that “access to this new team is part of the process that the hospital maintains to strengthen its resolution capacity, framed in the Referral Reduction Plan.”

For her part, Alba Cadena, attending physician at the neurosurgery service of the health home, thanked them for the support received and announced that so far this year, 140 procedures have been performed. With the incorporation of this team, surgical interventions will increase for the benefit of patients.
