With the formation of the Hemophilia Committee, the Isidro Ayora de Loja General Hospital, an establishment of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) commemorated the International Day of this disease. At the country level, 16 hospitals provide comprehensive care to patients with this pathology considered rare or orphan.
Specialists in hematology, traumatology, laboratory, emergency, physical therapy and rehabilitation, dentistry, surgery and quality management, make up the committee of professionals who will fully attend to the needs of patients, who will also have a card, the same that will allow care priority in various specialties that they require.
In Zonal Coordination 7, which includes the provinces of El Oro, Loja and Zamora Chinchipe, a total of 37 patients receive care and treatment for their disease, 17 of them belong to the Isidro Ayora General Hospital.
On a national scale, in 2022 the MSP invested 14.6 million dollars in medicines such as coagulation factors, medicines that are acquired through the corresponding public procurement processes, according to Gabriela Angamarca, Zonal person in charge of the Blood Program.
Oswaldo Aguirre, hospital manager, highlighted the advances and improvements that the health system has implemented for the care of these patients, as well as the commitment and support of families to make this disease bearable.
Finally, Santiago Ruilova, a patient at the hospital, thanked the support of the specialists and the Ministry of Health for the timely care they offer him, whose condition is difficult to manage on an emotional level, but bearable due to professional support.
