This time, they will unite together. Four of the five main trade unions in the hospital sector – CGT, FO, SUD and Unsa – have announced a “national day of action” for Tuesday, June 20. Strike notices have been filed. The unions are demanding wage increases, a revaluation of guards and on-call duty, better working conditions, as well as a real expansion policy for the hospital.

Lack of doctors, nurses, closures of emergency services, maternity wards, psychiatric beds, pediatrics, postponement of non-urgent operations at the slightest gust of wind… The ills of the hospital are known, and the announcements made by the President of the Republic last January will take time to demonstrate their potential effectiveness.

However, according to practitioners, the emergency has turned into a disaster: the trade unions claim that “80% of the national territory is a medical desert”.

The CGT affirms that “the medical and paramedical shortage is an assumed political choice, which accompanies the budgetary austerity maintained for years in a desire to dry up the public system to better undermine it”.

“Review hospital governance”

Force Ouvrière believes that the management of the hospital sector “like a private company in difficulty” for decades has proven its failure. “Review the governance of hospitals as if it were the miracle remedy for the lack of means”, revise “the working time of the staff” to alleviate the crisis of vocations, ironically FO, who asks “a Marshall plan for the hospital”, including the establishment of a “caregiver-patient” ratio and retirement at age 60 at the full rate.

In addition, three unions of hospital practitioners (CMH, INPH, Snam-HP) have already called for “a day of strike and action” for the day of July 4. “The public hospital is collapsing in whole sections”, they wrote a few days ago, denouncing a situation which “has never been so serious” for this profession with young doctors who “no longer want to commit “Or with many resignations in the services.
