The Minister of Public Health, José Ruales, along with his work team fulfilled the territorial agenda in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas to address health issues and assess the needs of the population. He held a meeting with Eduardo Tacuri, governor of the province, with the aim of proposing joint actions to improve the public health system in the province.

One of the priority issues that was addressed during the meeting was the preparation and prevention of the El Niño Phenomenon, for which the monitoring and mapping of health units, contingency plans, training of health personnel and the supply of drugs and supplies. Currently, the supply of medicines in Zonal Coordination 4, which covers the provinces of Manabí and Santo Domingo, is 78% vital drugs, 76% essential and 78% non-essential.

During the tour, the authority verified the repowering work of the clinical laboratory of the Dr. Gustavo Domínguez Hospital, which now has the microbiology area thanks to an investment of USD 124,000. He took the opportunity to thank health professionals for their commitment to the health and well-being of the population.

This health establishment strengthens its services to guarantee the operation of its full capacity, for this, medical equipment has been acquired for the Obstetric Surgical Center, including 7 transport stretchers and 4 electrocautery. In 2023, 155 health professionals have been linked and the portfolio of services in specialties such as ophthalmology, pulmonology and otorhinolaryngology increased.

On the other hand, Minister Ruales confirmed the reduction in waiting times for medical appointments at the Santo Domingo General Hospital. This health home has promoted comprehensive care with the delivery of biomedical equipment such as a radiant heat crib and an anesthesia machine. Likewise, it has surgical hours with 24-hour coverage.

Finally, Ruales together with the mayors Wilson Erazo and Sandra Ocampo, signed the letter of intent so that the Autonomous Decentralized Municipal Governments of Santo Domingo and La Concordia, respectively, form part of the National Program for Healthy Municipalities. This initiative will contribute to promoting sustainable public policies, promote citizen participation mechanisms, in addition to executing projects and actions to improve the quality of life of its population.
