According to a report, Mauricio Pochettino will become the USA’s national coach. According to “The Athletic”, the Argentinian and the football association reached an agreement this week. According to media reports, Pochettino had already emerged as the favorite last week.
US sporting director Matt Crocker, who worked with Pochettino at Southampton FC (2013), is said to have played a key role in the negotiations. The USA does not have to pay a transfer fee for the Argentinian, as he has been without a club since leaving Chelsea FC in the summer.
For the 52-year-old, it is his first job as a national coach. Until now, Pochettino has only worked at club level. His most successful tenure was at Tottenham Hotspur, where he worked for more than five years and even reached the Champions League final, which he ultimately lost to Liverpool FC and Jürgen Klopp.
