A 30-year-old man was detained by the police on Tuesday evening, September 21, in the administrative district of Middle Franconia in the federal state of Bavaria in southern Germany. He is suspected of taking hostage three people who were on a bus en route to Serbia on the A9 motorway. Before that, a fight broke out between passengers on an intercity Serbian bus for an unknown reason, as a result of which two received minor injuries. According to eyewitnesses, the situation was becoming “dangerous”.

The authorities had to involve special forces in the operation

According to the police, after the fight, the bus stopped on the side of the road and the passengers left the cabin. Three bus drivers and a 30-year-old hostage suspect remained on the bus. Presumably the man had a weapon.

The police had to completely block the A9 motorway in both directions. Emergency services, including special forces, arrived at the scene of the incident. During the operation, representatives of the special forces tried to establish contact with the 30-year-old suspect.

After one of the bus drivers was contacted by mobile phone, the drivers got off the bus. The man was detained at 21.30 local time. According to the police, he offered no resistance. No weapons were found. Law enforcers are examining the scene.
