Tourism is one of the main levers on which the economic growth of Spain is re-established. The data from the INE support this: until May, hotel overnight stays increased by 17.2% compared to 2022 and exceeded the rate registered in 2019.

In May, the average daily billing of hotels for each occupied room (ADR) stood at 102.9 euros, which represents an increase of 8.2% compared to the same month last year and almost 25% compared to 2019. , before the pandemic broke out, when a room cost 82.6 euros.
Despite this, during the month of May hotel nights exceeded 32.4 million, which represents an increase of 8.8% compared to the same month in 2022, when there were 29.7 million. In addition, they are higher than those of the same month of 2019. Residents in Spain exceeded 9.7 million overnight stays, 30% of the total, while foreigners exceeded 22.6 million.
In addition, according to INE data, the average stay increased by 1.4% compared to May 2022, standing at three nights per traveller.
Marbella, the point with the most expensive hotels
Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community were the main destinations for residents in Spain, while foreigners mainly traveled to hotels located in the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands and Catalonia, in that order.
The tourist spot with the most expensive rooms was Marbella for another month, with an average daily billing per occupied room of 189.9 euros. By category, average billing was 252.3 euros for five-star hotels, 105.8 euros for four-star hotels, and 80.8 euros for three-star hotels.
From the sector they assure that this rise in prices has not led to an increase in the net profit of the hotel companies in the same proportion due to the rise in costs, which in some cases reaches 20% compared to last year, on all because of energy and food prices.
