“House of Representatives” votes to keep “Al-Kabir” as Governor of the Central Bank

The House of Representatives voted unanimously during an official session, “to cancel the decision to appoint Mohamed Al-Shokri as Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, and to keep the current Governor, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer, and his deputy, Marai Al-Barasi, in their positions.”

The House of Representatives resumed its official session, headed by the Second Deputy Speaker of the House, Misbah Doma, where the session discussed the item related to canceling Resolution No. (3) of 2018 regarding the appointment of the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya. After discussing and deliberating this item, the House voted unanimously to cancel Resolution No. (3) of 2018 regarding the assignment of Muhammad Abdul Salam Al-Shukri as Governor of the Central Bank of Libya.

The Council also voted unanimously “to continue Al-Siddiq Omar Al-Kabir, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, and his deputy, Marai Muftah Al-Barasi, in their work in accordance with the decision of the Presidency of the House of Representatives No. (12) of 2024 regarding the suspension of Decision No. (3) of 2018, and the Council also voted to submit a nomination to form the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Libya within ten days in accordance with Law No. (1) of 2005 regarding banks.”

Regarding the item of the proposed National Reconciliation Law, “the Council discussed assigning its President, Counselor Aguila Saleh, to submit the proposed National Reconciliation Law for a vote, and to form the National Reconciliation Committee, to be presented to the Council for a vote on them, and this proposal was voted on unanimously, and thus the session was suspended.”
