BOLZANO. The sustainable rent makes its appearance in the social housing system in South Tyrol. The objective, as explained by the president of the provincial council, Arno Kompatscher, is to offer an opportunity to those who “earn too much to access social housing, but too little even for the subsidized apartment market”, in fact to the so-called middle class.

The new sustainable fee will be around between 60% and 100% of the provincial feewhich is applied in the case of affiliated accommodation. “In this way we will have a further social mix because in the same building, in addition to families with social rent, there will also be those who have a slightly higher income”, underlined Kompatscher illustrating the resolution approved by the executive on the proposal of the councilor for housing, Ulli Mair.

The number of accommodations that will be made available at a sustainable rent will however be limited, “because – the president further explained – we do not want to remove too many accommodations from the rankings for the social rent considering that there is still a great need there too”.

60 accommodations are planned for Bolzano, 40 for Merano, 15 for the other municipalities over 10,000 inhabitants and 5 for those under 10,000 inhabitants.
