Title: Houston Rockets’ Kevin Porter Jr. Arrested for Assaulting Girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick in New York City

Date: September 11, 2023, 3:43 PM ET

Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested in New York City on Monday for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick, according to police sources. The 23-year-old Porter has been formally charged with assault and strangulation.

The incident occurred when Porter returned early Monday morning from an evening out to the Millennium Hilton near U.N. Plaza, where he and Gondrezick were staying. Angered by his late arrival, Gondrezick locked the door, prompting Porter to seek assistance from hotel security to gain entry. Once inside, he reportedly attacked Gondrezick, causing injuries including a cut on the right side of her face and neck pain.

Currently in New York City for Fashion Week, Porter and Gondrezick were publicly seen together at the Vogue Smart Tox NYFW Kickoff event on September 7.

Porter, known for his rising star in the NBA, was drafted with the No. 30 pick in the 2019 NBA draft from the University of Southern California. He had an outstanding season in 2022-23 with an average of 19.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game.

On the other hand, Gondrezick played college basketball for Michigan and West Virginia before being selected as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever. She had one season with the team before being waived and has been a free agent for the past two WNBA seasons.

This is not the first time Porter has been involved in a legal situation. In November 2020, he was previously arrested on a weapons charge in Ohio. However, a grand jury declined to indict him. Despite this, the Cleveland Cavaliers made him inactive for the first half of the season, ultimately leading to his trade to the Houston Rockets in January 2021.

The circumstances surrounding Porter’s arrest in New York City are currently under investigation by local authorities. Neither the NBA nor the Houston Rockets have issued statements regarding the incident.
