Yemen’s Houthi rebels, responsible for several attacks on ships in the Red Sea, have guaranteed this Tuesday the safe transportation of all ships sailing in these waters as long as they are not heading towards Israeli ports.

The Houthis have sent a statement to all countries in the world and maritime organizations, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITWF), according to the Saba agency. In this way, the Yemeni rebels have justified that their attacks occur exclusively against those vessels heading to Israel, actions carried out in response to the military campaign in Gaza.

In fact, the Houthis have stressed that they will continue with these attacks until the Israeli authorities allow the entry of humanitarian aid and basic supplies for the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip. “Although we have been the target of aggression and blockade since 2015, we have committed and continue to commit to protecting navigation in the Red and Arabian Sea,” the Houthi rebels concluded in their statement.

The Houthis, backed by Iran, have launched several attacks against Israel since the start of the war against the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and have threatened to attack any ships owned or operated by Israeli companies or flying the Israeli flag in the Red Sea. After that, they hijacked the ship ‘Galaxy Leader’, which is still being held, and carried out several attacks with missiles and drones against other ships in the area. The group later announced that it will prevent any ship bound for Israel from transiting the Red Sea until the people of Gaza receive “all the help they need.”

Military alliance encourages Israel

On the other hand, they have pointed out that the international coalition led by the United States encourages Israel in “its brutal crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza”, while seeking to militarize the Red Sea for its benefit. “The international coalition announced by the United States is an integral part of the aggression against the Palestinian people, Gaza and the Arab and Islamic nation and aims to encourage the Zionist entity to continue its brutal crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” he said.

The Houthis considered that this military coalition, made up of ten countries according to the Pentagon, “is an alliance to protect the Zionist entity and Israeli ships” that also “contradicts international law, represents a threat and seeks to militarize the Red Sea for the benefit From Israel”.

The Pentagon announced this Monday a military coalition made up of ten countries to guarantee security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea in the face of recurring attacks by Houthi rebels from Yemen. The coalition will act under the name ‘Operation Prosperity Guardian’ and under the umbrella of the international naval force Combined Maritime Forces (CFM).
