DECRYPTION – For nearly three weeks, garbage cans have been piling up on the sidewalks of Paris. At the origin of this situation, a skilfully orchestrated trade union strategy.
This Saturday will mark the twentieth day of the strike for the cleanliness services of the city of Paris. This “garbage crisis” alone symbolizes, in the capital at least, the mobilization against the pension reform: heaps of garbage cans which obstruct the passage and which the thugs, on the sidelines of the demonstrations, do not hesitate to overthrow or burn. At the end of the week, the quantity of waste littering the Parisian sidewalks rose above the 10,000 tonne mark, to a relatively stable but above all very high level.
The requisitions initiated on March 16 by the Paris police headquarters cannot change anything. The authorities explain it by the scale of the problem: the stock of 10,000 tonnes of waste to be removed is added to the flow of 3,000 tonnes of garbage to be cleared daily in the capital. “The dumpsters are full very quicklysays an official at the town hall of Paris. The residual is such in the streets that it is difficult to catch up all at once.
