The tires of the future are oriented towards sustainability, not only to comply with the Euro 7 regulations, “but going a step further”, they say from ‘Choose quality, choose trust’ (ECEC). In this sense, we could be on the way to achieving the development of tires made with one hundred percent sustainable materials. And some manufacturers are directing their work in this direction, for example, manufacturing tires with natural and recycled materials, using everything from natural fibers to others. developed from processed waste.

In this line, the tire manufacturers belonging to the initiative are working on the development of silica -essential to generate traction- from rice husks and natural rubber obtained from dandelion silver.

Another sustainable development in the field of tires that is already a reality is the technology by which the structural part of the tire is manufactured with polyester thread. obtained from used PET bottleswithout any intermediate chemical step and that cannot be recycled in any other way.

‘Shoes’ for your vehicle such as the Bridgestone Turanza 6 offers drivers absolute control and the best guarantee of safety, especially in situations as important as rain, for example.

This makes the technology much more efficient than other standard methods for transforming PET bottles into high-performance polyester yarns. Within a special recycling process, the bottles are sorted and cleaned mechanically, after removing the caps. After mechanical shredding, the PET is transformed into granules and finally into polyester yarn, completely replacing conventional polyester in the carcass. In this way, a set of standard tires for tourism would use the material from about 40 recycled PET bottles.

Along these lines, some tire manufacturers, such as those adhering to ECEC, direct their developments towards a green concept, using almost 20% recycled materials (PET bottles, steel, carbon, carbon black from worn tires), as well as around 35% natural raw materials (natural rubber from dandelion, silicate from rice husk ash, vegetable oils and resins).

The objective of this green tire concept is to minimize the consumption of resources in all the links of the tire value chain, “from the supply and acquisition of raw materials to the different phases of production, going through the ways of prolonging the useful life of the tyre”, they explain from ECEC. The result, tires composed of a particularly high percentage of renewable, renewed, recycled materials that will allow their traceability.
