For all those who regularly curse their weather app, there is now hope: the field is experiencing a revolution. In July, two studies appeared in Nature that caused a stir in the industry. There is already talk of a breakthrough, of the beginning of a new era in weather forecasting.

Chinese data scientists have developed two weather models that not only keep up with the previous ones, but are said to be even better. The highlight: they are not based on physical equations, but on machine learning, i.e. models with artificial intelligence.
