DECRYPTION – Sequencing and linking the genomes of 240 mammalian species should help unlock many mysteries of the genetic code.

When you think about it, the thing is dizzying: we all come from a single cell containing in its nucleus all of our instructions for use. Between a primordial cell of a dog, a bat or a human being, there is ultimately no great visible difference, except for the genetic code contained in the nucleus.

Stranger still in a way, each of our cells in turn contains the same plan of construction and functioning, whether it is a white blood cell, a neuron, a skin cell, of liver, muscle or other, and yet, each finds “automatically” its conformation, its place and its role in our organism.
