Germany, Handball European Championship: How can the DHB team qualify for the Olympics?
A total of twelve teams will compete against each other at the Olympics next summer – six of which can qualify through major events such as the European Championships or World Championships, and six through qualifying tournaments.
A ticket will also be awarded for this year’s European Championship. This would actually go to the winner, but the two finalists France and Denmark were already certain to be there as Olympic hosts and world champions respectively. That’s why the DHB team not only had the chance of the bronze medal in the game for third place, but also of a place for the summer – but they missed it.
Now national coach Alfred Gislason’s team has to take part in the qualifying tournament in the spring. Germany starts in tournament two – against Croatia, Algeria and Austria. If Gislason’s team prevails there, they will go to Paris.
