Gujarat State Commissioner has issued a verbal order to the authorities to remove street non-vegetarian food stalls in areas under Ahmedabad Corporation.
Following this, corporation employees removed non-vegetarian food stalls from the streets in Ahmedabad. The move was made on behalf of the corporation to ensure that only restaurants that occupy the roadside are removed.
Meanwhile, the restaurant owners have filed a case in the Gujarat High Court alleging that the corporation was deliberately disposing of only non-vegetarian restaurants along the roadsides.
The case came up for hearing today. Judge Vaishnav, who heard the case, raised a barrage of questions against the Ahmedabad corporation. The judge said,
What is the problem with you (Ahmedabad Corporation)? How can you decide what to eat outside of my home? How can you prevent people from eating the food they want? Do you think someone in power should suddenly do this?
