Peace, dialogue and respect between cultures, sustainable development and quality education. These are the foundations of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet), which celebrates its 70th anniversary.
In a context in which many regions of the world face wars and armed conflicts, actions to build lasting peace remain more crucial than ever. To this end, Campus UNESCO organized a series of Campuses, in three different languages, with the aim of addressing students from Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America. A unique opportunity to celebrate the first day of the 42nd UNESCO General Conference.
Dialogues between experts, students and teachers led to a list of actions and activities that not only promote peace, but also how each of us can be an active global citizen at various levels.
A large part of contemporary conflicts are civil wars, between armed groups and governments. National actors and civil society play an important role in promoting this culture of peace. Cristal Downing, Director of the International Crisis Group’s Gender and Conflict Project, reminded teachers and students that peace can be built in many sectors of society, where everyone can play a role, no matter how small those actions may seem.
