The tower is located in an important strategic place in Jordan in the far north-east, at the meeting of the Kingdom’s borders with Syria and Iraq.
Purpose Little is known about the site, but it is located near Al-Tanf base, which is located on the opposite side within the Syrian border and houses a small number of American soldiers. The Al-Tanf base played a major role in the war against ISIS, and it also played a role in the American strategy to contain Iranian military expansion in eastern Syria.
Tower 22 is located close enough to American forces in Al-Tanf that it can help support those forces, as well as be used to combat Iranian-backed militants in the region and help the forces monitor remaining ISIS members.
