Faced with a persistent drought, how to save water, especially on a large scale? In campsites, this is a real challenge.
The swimming pool is the unmissable meeting place for 1,400 customers of the camping “The Sea Front”, in Argelès-sur-Mer (Pyrénées-Orientales). For managers, however, one question remains to be resolved: how to satisfy customers while avoiding wasting water? At the rear of the basin is a 10,000 liter water tank. “This water, it was thrown into the river. Now we collect it and store it in these tanks, to make it available to the firefighters first, and when the tank is full, we draw water to water our plants.“, explains Grégoire Beaucamp, technical manager.
Educate customers
In this establishment, which offers 700 m2 of pools, the manager educates customers and tracks down the slightest leak. In the outlets, push-buttons limit the flow of water to about thirty seconds. Some are receptive. A couple of holidaymakers from Lyon only use 10 liters of water a day for their household purposes. In the Pyrénées-Orientales, the water level remains under close surveillance.
