Office workers are constantly distracted and face the challenge of getting it together again to complete the work, as the brain needs a period to return to focus.

Vera Starker, a psychiatrist and consultant at Next Work Innovation, likens the brain to a “machine in the knowledge age,” and says, “We cannot stop the production line 20 times a day.”

She added, “The employee works with concentration within two hours a day,” noting that the period is divided into two periods of 50 minutes each, followed by a 10-minute break.

Starker advises scheduling focus-time blocks before noon, and putting off meetings until later.

The researcher stresses that it is not possible to focus for 8 hours a day, but rather the stages of concentration must alternate with periods of cooperation, creativity and rest periods.

And the specialist concluded that those who suffer from a high level of stress may find that the time to focus requires effort in the beginning, and she says, “This is because their bodies are accustomed to high levels of cortisol due to the continuous high levels of stress.”

The researcher believes that it takes willpower and persistence to attract attention to the goal every time.

The expert says that companies and employers bear the responsibility for creating suitable working conditions for employees, without denying that they are responsible for intensifying their focus.

Starker advised the employee to refuse to undertake any tasks while he was busy with other accomplishments.

She said that to provide good conditions for concentration, it is preferable to put the phone away, and to stay away from all means of distraction.
