Dusseldorf If you are on the Internet, you often come across dubious offers that promise quick riches. For investors who get involved, the whole thing often ends in a total loss.
Sometimes it’s finfluencers who rave about the next insider tip, sometimes it’s the distant acquaintance on Facebook. And sometimes it’s a celebrity allegedly promoting a particularly profitable investment in an advertisement. What the victims don’t know: the whole thing is fake.
In the case of Hartmut Worm, it was tech giants Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates who were featured in an ad as the brains behind a new cryptocurrency. Worm invested a lot of money, but there was no return. In the end, tens of thousands of euros were gone. “You’re already thinking about how you can be ripped off online like that,” he says.
