How France wants to reach one million apprentices

DECRYPTION – While the Prime Minister has set the number of apprentices at 1 million in 2027, a reform of the sector’s financing system is disrupting the start of the school year.

Since the re-election of Emmanuel Macron in April, the ministers have multiplied the declarations to recall how much learning remains a government priority. Starting with the Prime Minister, who, on June 24, during a trip to Seine-et-Marne, recalled that “to achieve the objectives of easier integration of young people into employment and full employment, apprenticeship is a key”. A month earlier, Olivier Dussopt, his successor at the Ministry of Labour, had for his part linked words to deeds by confirming the extension, from June 30 to December 31, of the bonuses for hiring apprentices (€5,000 for a minor, 8,000 for adults) in force since 2020. To do this, an envelope of 750 million euros was voted in the 2022 amending budget, with the ambition of reaching 800,000 contracts signed by the end of the year, then one million per year at the end of the five-year term.
