The war in Ukraine and an increasingly volatile situation in the Indo-Pacific region, with fears about China and North Korea’s next steps, have reignited the debate over Japanese “pacifism”.
Envisioned in the post-World War II Constitution, this concept is based on Japan’s “renunciation of war” as well as its promise that the country would never maintain offensive military troops.
