BNP chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s 80th birthday today (August 15). Like the last few years, this time too Khaleda Zia’s birthday is planned to be celebrated with a prayer mahfil.
On the occasion of Khaleda Zia’s birthday, prayers and milad have been organized tomorrow (August 16). Long life and health of Khaleda Zia and prayers for forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs and recovery of the injured in the recent student movement. Due to various physical complications, he is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
Incidentally, the four-party alliance led by BNP formed the government after winning the October 1, 2001 elections. Khaleda Zia was imprisoned on September 3, 2007 after the One-Eleven. He was imprisoned till September 2008. He spent his birthday for the first time while in prison. Khaleda Zia was sentenced in the Zia Orphanage Trust case on February 8, 2018 before the 11th Parliament elections.
The government released Khaleda Zia conditionally on March 25, 2020 after suspending the sentence for six months due to the situation caused by the Corona epidemic. The government decided to suspend the sentence on the condition that he will receive treatment at home and will not be able to go abroad. He was treated at Evercare Hospital in the capital for several complications including liver cirrhosis and heart problems.
After the fall of the Awami League government, Khaleda Zia’s sentence was commuted and she was released. However, he is under treatment in the hospital as he is ill. If the doctors find Khaleda Zia physically fit, she will be taken abroad for better treatment. According to BNP sources, all preparations have been completed for this purpose.
