Homeowners share the story of a successful home that no one wants at first sight.
The name of our house is ‘Ishal’. Our new home is at Mullampara near Manjeri. My wife and I are doctors. His wife’s brother and his wife are architects. So there was no tension over who should be entrusted with the housework.

We were not interested in the box houses that everyone is building in Kerala now. It should be a suitable home for a large area. The wind and light should be well received. There should be adequate privacy. This was our demand. The groom and his wife took over the mission housework and did everything one step ahead.

The four-tiered roof of the house makes the exterior attractive. GI trussed and ran away. Below this there is a ceiling run. The exterior walls are retained in the exposed style without plastering. The inside is plastered and painted.

Downstairs are the porch, seating area, living room, kitchen, workroom, and two bedrooms. Upstairs there is a bedroom, living room and open terrace. The total area is 2200 square feet.

Gray rustic finish tile is widely spread in public places. The furniture was measured and arranged to match the interior theme. We chose very simple and beautiful furniture. An example of this is the simple sofa and chair and the dining table with a bench concept on one side. There are designer tiles not only on the walls of the wash area on the dining side but also on the floor.

The house spaces are arranged in an L shape to ensure visibility everywhere, depending on the shape of the plot. It also has the advantage of being able to monitor people arriving at the doorstep from the kitchen itself. The spaces are divided into three zones: Public-Private-Semi-Private. At the entrance to the courtyard comes the porch, seating area and main entrance. Elsewhere it comes on both sides.

The entrance to the hall, arranged in open policy, is through a small sitout and main door. Living-dining areas are indiscriminately deployed here. From the living room you can enter the courtyard against the side wall through the sliding glass door. Here is the vertical garden set up.

The slatter is made of wooden plank with a metal frame. Since we are doctors we have a lot of books and stuff at home. This and the fact that we needed a lot of storage space to store our children’s learning materials in the future. There is a corridor leading to the bedrooms on the side of the stairwell. There is maximum storage on the ground floor and upper floor.

There is also a mezzanine floor utilizing the ceiling height of the upstairs bedroom. It can be converted into a mini bedroom if guests want. The greenery is inside as it is in the landscape. Presence of indoor plants in bedrooms. The lower bedrooms also have a bay window. Here you can enjoy the beauty of the outdoor garden.

The kitchen cabinet is in Marine Ply + Mica finish. Granite was spread on the counter. In addition there is varicella.

In general, it is the custom of the Malayalees to tile the yard after building the house. We did not go to that event here. The baby metal was spread so that the water would reach the ground. In the landscape a little bit of natural spontaneity and grass mixed. Now the most important thing. The windows here are given according to the direction of the wind. So the cold wind is still blowing inside the house. The heat is relatively low. No fan but no discomfort. Also there is no need to light as the natural light is well received in the morning.

The housework was done during lockdown. There have been some delays in its work. However, our dream home came true one step further than we had dreamed and desired. Its main credit goes to the groom and the spot’s wife. People who are planning to build a house are now returning home with the contact number of the spot …
