Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left Singapore for Thailand on August 11.

He has been granted temporary sojourn in Thailand.

Sri Lanka’s former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been granted permission to stay in Thailand for 90 days, the country’s foreign minister has said.

He flew to Thailand with his wife from Singapore on Thursday, August 11.

Earlier, on Wednesday (August 10), Thai Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-o-cha called the matter a humanitarian issue, saying Rajapaksa could not participate in any political activities while in Thailand.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Dan Pramuthvinai said the Sri Lankan government supports Rajapakse’s visit to Thailand, adding that the former president’s diplomatic passport will allow him to stay for 90 days.
