We come from chaos and to chaos we will return. The beginnings of Solar system they were violent, with a multitude of planetary bodies in formation vying for the orbits now occupied by the worlds that survived the initial chaos. And in the future, with a Sun that inevitably changes over time, it is quite possible that some of the planets around us will leave their orbit and hurtle into the others.
Nothing in the Universe lasts forever, and neither will our home in space. But when will that be? A team of mathematicians has just said, in an article published in ‘arXiv’, what not before 100,000 years.
