According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, there are currently 10,633 electric vehicles registered in Kazakhstan. More than half of them are in Almaty – 6,689 electric vehicles, the second place in terms of number is in Astana with 1,513 electric vehicles, reports Tengri Auto.

According to the Ministry of Transport, many central and local executive bodies (LEBs) are involved in the development of electric vehicles. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is responsible for the registration of vehicles, the Ministry of Energy is responsible for the supply of electricity in cities, and the Ministry of Finance is responsible for issues related to the import of electric vehicles.

As for the installation of electric charging stations, there are currently 351 electric charging stations in the republic:

  • in Almaty – 283;
  • in Astana – 21;
  • in Shymkent – 11;
  • in Akmola region – 3;
  • in Aktobe region – 1;
  • in Atyrau region – 4;
  • in the East Kazakhstan region – 1;
  • in Zhetysu region – 2;
  • in the Karaganda region – 9;
  • in Kostanay region – 2;
  • in Mangistau region – 6;
  • in Pavlodar region – 8.

According to the Ministry of Transport, an additional 212 charging stations are planned to be installed in the country’s regions in 2024–2025.

The Ministry of Industry and Construction notes that with the increasing number of electric vehicles on the country’s roads, the need to develop charging infrastructure is growing. The growth in sales of electric vehicles, driven by interest in environmentally friendly transport and government initiatives, requires a significant expansion of the network of charging stations.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, a company that has developed its own technologies for charging electric vehicles is currently actively operating in Kazakhstan. The company produces AC and DC charging stations with a capacity of 11 kW to 360 kW, such as the Nova – AC Station and Foton – DC Station models, which meet international quality and safety standards.

The company also plans to launch production of liquid-cooled power units for charging stations in 2025.
