Importance of nursing staff

In our country, the largest union is the one made up of IMSS nurses. Just to have an idea, To date, it has a staff made up of 120,423 people who daily provide hospitalization care to beneficiaries at the three levels of care. They also carry out preventive actions in nurseries, schools, companies and develop assistance, teaching, administrative and research functions.

In this regard, the head of the Nursing Coordination, Fabiana Maribel Zepeda Ariasaffirmed that one of the great challenges is to achieve the satisfaction of the beneficiaries with the care they receive from the Nursing staff.
“It is a big challenge and that is not the job of a single person. It is the work of the entire union, of the more than 120,000 nurses. It is a commitment that has to be endorsed day by day. It is a challenge that has to be met every day when making the decision to care for a patient and give them the best”.
He also highlighted that this daily work is carried out with an important development of human resources, where specialties such as: Surgical Nursing, Pediatrics, Intensive Care, Dental Health, Oncology, Nephrology, Family Medicine, Public Health, Geriatrics and Management, and Education in Second and Third Level of care.
Each provides specific care within the area of responsibility, and involves staff with other groups for decision-making. He said that 24 percent of the Institute’s Nursing staff are men.
He further indicated that the On May 1, 2023, the H. Technical Council of the IMSS approved the modification of the organic structure of the Nursing Coordination. Now it will have divisions, which will allow a shared participation in decision-making, related to the issues of human resources and material resources, which contribute to the Nursing Care process and to Directive Management at the three levels of care.
How many nursing schools does the IMSS have?
He highlighted the distribution of the seven Nursing Schools in the country: Tijuana Baja California; two in the state of Sonora; Monterrey, Nuevo Leon; Guadalajara Jalisco; Merida Yucatan; and Mexico City, with an enrollment of 1,466 students, from which an average of 459 Graduates in Nursing graduate annually.
He commented that of the graduates, approximately 80 percent join the ranks of the Mexican Institute of Social Security, “although efforts are now aimed at ensuring that 100 percent of these graduates become part of the more than 400,000 workers of the institution.
He explained that within the entrance requirements to these schools and to study the Nursing Degree, those interested must present a high school or high school certificate with an average greater than 8.0; CURP, birth certificate and register on the IMSS platform. The career is studied in four years, plus one of social service.
