Motorhome holidays, which allow you to stop when you want and where you want, have until now been an economical formula… But that was before the rise in fuel prices. Motorhome owners have adapted their behavior, without changing anything in the philosophy of nomadic holidays.

Jean-Michel and Roselyne Demello started camping ten years ago. Even in the rain, they appreciate the feeling of being alone in the world. Their peace of mind, however, has a price, which has recently exploded due to soaring fuel prices. “We try to drive slower, take the highway less”, explains Jean-Michel. They had planned to go to Spain or Portugal during the summer, but are now looking for a campsite in the Cévennes, near their home.

Clément Fernandez, manager of a campsite, offers “fuel cards” to its customers and thanks to this offer, reservations are pouring in. “Perhaps the client will use [cet argent] at the grocery store, at the restaurant, or at the campsite”, explains Clément Fernandez. This is the first season that Laurent Lavaut and his companion Patricia Bretin will spend on the road. They bought their camper during the year. To save money, they drive slowly, avoid the most expensive stations, and write down their expenses in a road book. Since their last trip three months ago, their gas budget has indeed exploded. However, the surge in fuels will not take away their smiles or their desire for freedom.
