Only 23 percent of women who are going to experience childbirth have access to Social Security (IMSS) in Mexico. This means 29 million Mexicans, representing a little more than the total of all users affiliated with the IMSS in the country. Behind, there are another 60 million people whose only access to health is through Seguro Popular or similar institutions and more than half are women.

An obstetric ultrasound to confirm pregnancy is priced between 500 and 1,500 pesos. There is also a cost for a complete blood study of 24 elements; specifically, in a private laboratory between 600 and 1,500 pesos.

Regarding childbirth, the cost will depend, fundamentally, on the hospital chosen and the type of delivery that the woman wishes. For example, private institutions have different packages that, in addition to childbirth, include hospitalization nights, medicines, healing materials, a bed for a companion, a nursery, etc. For example, at the Spanish Hospital in Mexico City, the price of childbirth is 23,500 pesos for two nights and if it is a cesarean section, which means staying in the hospital for three nights, the price rises to 35,000. pesos.
If a natural birth is chosen, hospital prices vary between 15,000 and 30,000 pesos and increase by 20% if a cesarean section is chosen. To this are added the fees of the gynecologist (from 10,000 to 30,000 pesos), those of the pediatrician (from 1,500 to 6,000 pesos) and if a cesarean section is required, the anesthetist must be paid (between 3,000 and 8,000 pesos). . Finally, if it is a multiple birth, the price increases between 6,000 and 15,000 pesos per child, plus the fees of medical professionals.
