The foreign tourists who visited our country this year appeared more restrained in their spending as, as the data show, they had a tighter budget compared to last year, while at the same time, they slightly reduced the length of their stay.

Unfavorable macroeconomic conditions and strong inflationary pressures prevailing worldwide have partly put a brake on the spending of travelers, who are thinking more before putting their hand in their pocket.

Who spent the most?

Visitors from North America remain more gallant, who traditionally appear willing to spend a little more compared to Europeans.

In particular, the average expenditure of Americans per trip reached 1,038 euros in the second quarter of 2023 from 1,063 euros in the corresponding period last year. Canadians spent €1,127 per trip from €1,135 last year and Australians €1,588 while Russians made a strong comeback, spending €1,611 from €1,181 in the second quarter of 2022.
