Massenpanik, the German word used for events like those on Saturday evening in the Korean capital, is actually a misnomer. Because the panic usually only arises when the accident is already underway – and the fact that many people don’t notice the ongoing disaster and continue to push into bottlenecks without worry can contribute to the accident continuing.
