Technology is very useful in everyday life, making our lives faster and more accessible. However, the electronic devices that use it may one day cause problems, including desktop computers and notebooks.
If there is no problem with your computer, it could happen one day, and it will require deeper access to solve it. For this, BIOS is used, the program that comes pre-installed in the computers’ firmware.
How to access the BIOS on the computer?
With BIOS, you can make some “low-level” changes to your computer. However, do you know how to access it? There are several ways to do this, and you can check them out below.
Access from Windows 10 or 11
If your Operating System was Windows 10 or 11, you can access the BIOS while the system is running. Make sure all files are saved before starting the procedure. Check out the step-by-step below:

- In Windows 10, access the settings panel and click on “Update and security”.
- On the left, click on “recover”. In this window, there is a sub-heading called “Advanced Startup”, with a “Restart Now” button. Click on it.
- A new screen will appear, and you need to click on “Troubleshooting”, and “Advanced Options”. Then, in “UEFI Firmware Settings”, which has a chip icon with a gear.
- Finally, click “Restart”. After this, the computer will restart and open the BIOS directly, without the need to press specific buttons on the keyboard.

Another way to access the BIOS with the system running on Windows 11 is as follows:
- Search in the Windows search bar “Change complex startup options“;

- Your computer will restart and then a screen with a Menu will appear;
- In the Menu, select the option “Solving problems” or “Troubleshooting“, in English;

Another way is to press the right hotkey before completing POST (power on self test) as soon as the computer is turned on for the first time. However, there is a chance that the computer boots so fast that it does not leave time to press the hotkey.

If the computer’s Operating System is a version of Linux, such as Ubuntu, the BIOS can be accessed using the command “sudo systemctl reboot –firmware”, typed at the command prompt.
