Suspension of INSS payment payments: How to avoid it? The INSS suspended, on average, 28,000 benefit payments per month this year, according to data from the first quarter, the most recent in Social Security statistical bulletins. Suspensions that, at least in some cases, could be avoided by the beneficiaries.

Various procedures present in the routine of INSS can lead to the interruption and even cancellation of payments made to policyholders, such as proof of life, which was mandatory again in June this year.
The review program to identify irregularities or fraud in benefits is also consolidating itself as one of the main causes for suspension of payments, according to pension consultant Rômulo Saraiva.

“Proof of life is automatic, it does not depend on the analysis of a server, so it cuts many benefits”, says Saraiva. “But the fine-tooth comb is perhaps today the main reason for complaints related to interruption of payments”, she comments.
In the case of disability benefits, the suspension may also result from a fine-toothed comb to reevaluate the insured’s health condition. Anyone who does not schedule or attend the inspection will no longer receive monthly deposits.

The income of those away from work due to illness may also be at risk if the order for participation in a professional rehabilitation program is not complied with, the purpose of which is to enable the worker to develop an activity compatible with their limitations.

Even a simple distraction, such as failing to move the money deposited by the INSS for more than 60 days, can result in the temporary blocking of income. “Just like the lack of proof of life, the lack of withdrawal of payment tends to be interpreted as an indication that the beneficiary has died”, explains Saraiva.
