by time news

Can’t stand the constant calls from a particular number? Find out how to block a phone number, whether you’re on an Android device or an iPhone.

Whatever the reason, it is very easy to block a phone number if you know the procedure. Whether you have an Android phone or an iPhone, here’s how.

If you decide to block a phone number, you will no longer receive any calls or messages from this correspondent. You will also not be notified of any call attempts from this person. Concretely, without you having to do anything, your phone will automatically reject the call and switch the correspondent to voicemail.

There are several good reasons why you might want to block a phone number. This can be to put an end to untimely commercial canvassing or spam, to avoid calls from an unknown number, or even to no longer want to be contacted by one of your contacts.

It is very easy to block a correspondent and it is just as easy to unblock them later if you wish. You also have the option of using a number blocking application that will automatically filter calls by identifying numbers that are associated with spam or solicitation. Among the free ones, we can mention Blacklist Plus, Master call or Call Blocker Free.

Block a number on Android

On a phone running on Android (typically a Samsung brand smartphone), you can block the contacts of your choice by going:

  • in your directory on the card of the contact concerned;
  • by clicking on the three vertical dots, select “”Block contact”” or “”Add to blacklist”” (on Huawei brand phones for example),
  • confirm your choice.

If you want to block a number that is not in your contacts, you will first need to create a file for it to repeat the previous procedure. If you want to unblock a contact:

  • go to the “”Telephone”” area;
  • click on “Settings” (or the three vertical dots depending on the phone brand);
  • then “”Block numbers””;
  • uncheck the box in front of the contacts or number concerned (or click on “”Unblock””).

Even if each brand of phone running Android has its own little specificities, the process is almost always the same.

Block a number on iPhone

To block a phone number on your iPhone, follow these steps:

  • go to “”Telephone””, in the “”Recent calls”” section;
  • click on the information icon to the right of the contact or number you want to block;
  • scroll to the bottom of the screen and select “”Block this caller””.

You also have the option to block video calls from Face Time by performing the same operations directly within the application. If you later want to unblock a previously blocked number, select the number or contact concerned, swipe left, then click “”Unblock””.

Note that if you no longer know which contacts or numbers you have blocked, you can consult them by going to the phone settings section. Select the “”Call blocking and identification”” tab, in which there is a list of all the telephone numbers and contacts that you have blocked. In this section, you also have the option to manually add phone numbers to block.

Block a private number

Even private numbers or hidden calls can be blocked on your phone. On Android:

  • go to the Phone then to the settings (to be selected in the three vertical dots at the top right);
  • click on “”Call””;
  • then on “”Call rejection””;
  • choose “”Auto Reject Mode””, “”Auto Reject Numbers”” then “”Auto Reject List””;
  • check the “”Hidden call”” or “”Unknown”” box.

Depending on the phone models, the procedure may vary. On some models, once in the phone settings, select “”Blocked numbers”” and check the “”Unknown numbers”” box which specifies that once activated, the phone will block calls from unidentified people .

On iPhones equipped with version iOS 13 and later, it is possible to activate the “”Silent calls from strangers”” option. To activate it, go to “”Settings”” and “”Telephone””, then scroll down the page to “”Silent unknown calls””. In fact, calls from unknown numbers will automatically go to voicemail without ringing your phone. However, these calls appear in the list of recent calls.
