How to cancel a train ticket and get a refund?

by time news

Every year, millions of French people take the train. To go to work, get together with family or, like now, go on vacation. And when life has unforeseen events for us, a few thousand of us have to cancel our trip, and therefore our ticket. In this case, reimbursement is not always possible.

Reimbursement for a train ticket is not always possible. The 14-day right of withdrawal specific to e-commerce does not apply for train tickets purchased online, as we confirm in our magazine 60 million consumers. Then it all depends on the trains.

If you have a ticket for a TGV inOui or an Intercités (excluding No Flex and promotional fares), you can cancel up to three days before departure and request an exchange or refund free of charge. You should also know that any classic cardboard ticket can be resold, even if a name is indicated on it, and provided that the purchaser can benefit from the initial conditions (advantages, reductions, etc.).

On the other hand, for a Ouigo ticket, no refund is possible and it cannot be transferred or resold. However, if it is a Ouigo Grande Vitesse ticket, it can be exchanged for the same journey on another date (until 1h30 before departure) for an exchange fee of €10.

And if it’s the train that’s not on time, what are you entitled to? If your train is less than 30 minutes late, you will not be entitled to anything. Between 30 minutes and one hour, and provided you have an inOui, Lyria or Intercités ticket, you will win a voucher corresponding to 25% of the ticket price. Between one hour and three hours late, 25% or 50% compensation (50% beyond two hours) will be reimbursed by bank transfer or, for a Ouigo, exclusively as a voucher. Beyond three hours of delay, the compensation will rise to 75% for all trains except for Ouigo since limited to 50% of the price of the ticket paid in voucher.
