When a tire reaches the end of its useful life, the most environmentally friendly option is to reuse it in new tires. If this is not possible, the tires are sent to recycling plants where its components (rubber, textile fiber and steel) are recovered for use in various applications.

One of the newest and most surprising applications is the manufacture of ecological percussion bases by the Beetle Percussion brand. This company creates environmentally friendly percussion musical instruments using recycled rubber from used tires.

Surprisingly, and according to TNU (Treatment of Used Tires), a single tire can produce up to 20 of these bases, resulting in a significant saving of 32.85 kilograms of CO2 emissions, 10.50 liters of oil and 882 liters of water.

In addition to its contribution to tire recycling, Beetle Percussion also uses wood from trees affected by beetle infestations. For every base made, they plant a new tree, helping to restore wildlife habitat and reduce the risks of flooding and soil erosion.

Given all this, and in a context of climate crisis and shortage of raw materials, the reuse of used tire components becomes essential for a sustainable future. And there are many environmental, economic and social advantages of giving a second life to used tires, while promoting ecological projects that demonstrate the opportunities for recycling these valuable materials.
