A central pillar of the announcement is Apple’s commitment to privacy, which the company claims distinguishes its AI from competitors. Most Apple Intelligence tasks are processed on-device. However, for larger models that require more memory or processing power, Apple has introduced Private Cloud Compute (PCC).

PCC utilizes Apple silicon servers to process data in a way that ensures the information is never stored or accessible to Apple. According to Apple’s official documentation, the system uses a stateless architecture, meaning the data is processed and then immediately deleted. To ensure transparency, Apple has stated that independent experts can verify the code running on these servers to confirm that no data is being logged.

Because Apple Intelligence relies heavily on the Neural Engine for on-device processing, it is not compatible with all current devices. The system requires a minimum amount of RAM and a specific processor architecture to function.
