And suddenly, TikTok. The ‘app‘ of music videos has become one of the biggest successes that the Internet has experienced in the last decade. Not only does it have, at this point, more than 1,000 million users, but it has also become one of the favorite platforms of young users. The most valuable for any social media company.

Now the ‘app’ has announced the arrival of a new functionality called ‘Screen time breaks‘, which allows the site to be configured so that it shows the user recommendations to disconnect a little when they have spent a specific time looking at content.

Additionally, TikTok is introducing weekly tips on digital wellbeing for the youngest members of its community.

In this way, when a user between the ages of 13 and 17 uses the app for more than 100 minutes in a single day, TikTok will send them a notice reminding them of the screen time limit tool the next time they open the app.

Be that as it may, the key for parents to effectively control the time their children spend scrolling is time available in the application. And it is none other than the control parental. We explain how to take advantage of it so that you can prevent your child from spending more time hooked on the screen than he should.

Step by Step

The functionality can be easily configured from within the app. We just have to enter our profile and look in Settings for the section ‘family sync‘. This process must be carried out both in the device of the adult and in that of the minor. In the case of the former, you will have to select the ‘Legal guardian’ option.

After clicking ‘Next’, you will see a QR code appear on the screen that will have to be scanned with the minor’s ‘smartphone’ following the same procedure, only in this case, instead of selecting ‘Guardian legal’, you will have to click on ‘Minor’.

Once the accounts are synced, the adult will be able to control the daily time that the minor spends in the application: 40, 60, 90 or 120 minutes (if the minor has several accounts, the time of use will also limit their other accounts). In addition, it allows you to restrict inappropriate content and manage the privacy settings of the account.
