How to recover deleted files on Android, iOS, Windows and Mac

Every user of a computer or mobile phone has ever faced the problem of having to recover deleted files, usually by mistake. From Android to iOS, through Windows and Mac, this is the procedure to do it.

Windows

In case you have to recover a file deleted in Windows 10the operating system currently most used by Microsoft users, there is the possibility of using the recovery tool launched on the market by the company itself under the name Windows File Recovery.

It is free and, once started (or previously downloaded and installed, if it is not based on the PC), the user has to follow the following scheme when giving commands to the tool: Winfr source unit destination unit /mode /filters.

If, for example, you want to recover the photo of a dog deleted on drive C: and you want to have it back on drive D:, you would have to enter the following: Winfr C: D:/regular/n perrojpeg.

Mac

In the case of Mac, there are two methods: one by going to the trash and the other by using the program Time Machine. In the first, you simply click on the icon inside the application bar and find the file in question that you want to recover by right clicking or dragging it out to its new destination folder.

If the file in question is not already in the trash, the other option is to use Time Machine, the Mac program to make Backups.

First of all, you have to click on Select backup disk and then choose where you want to store those copies from now on. To do this, you must click on Back up automatically to leave the function configured.

The next time you want to retrieve a deleted file on Mac, you must access Time Machine and, once there, look for the file or folder to finally click on Restore.

Android

For Android users, there are two great ways to recover a deleted file: with or without root. Rooting is the process that allows someone to gain control and certain privileges over a device in order to modify some of its built-in features.

If you have root privileges, the easiest way is through the app DiskDigger. Once downloaded and installed, these permissions are provided and the directory to be searched is selected using the /data command.

Next, it’s time to select the type of files you want to find and wait for the app completes its process. Once done, the program allows you to save it on the device.

There is also the possibility that the user does not have privileges or root permissions on your android phone. In that case, the most recommended is to use third-party software such as Recuva, whose use requires a computer.

Once this program is installed, The mobile is connected via USB to the computer. Now, open Recuva and choose the type of file you want to find. Subsequently, ‘At a specific position’ is clicked, at which time the Android device is selected.

Recuva offers the option to enable (or not) its deep scan mode. Next, wait for the search to finish. select the file to recover and saved to the computer.

iOS

Finally, there is a possibility that a user of iOS operating system present on iPhone and iPad wants to recover an accidentally deleted file. In case it was a photo, the quick option is to access within the app Photos to the Deleted tab.

The images deleted in the last 30 days are stored there before being completely deleted. Within this tab, it would only be necessary search for the photo in question and click on Recover to return them to their original folder.

The second great alternative to recover a file deleted by mistake in iOS valid for all types of files (not just images) is to make a backup copy on the device thanks to iCloud.
