If you have macOS 13 or later installed on your Mac, you can use the device near your iPhone as a microphone input for your computer. Read on to find out how it works.
With macOS Ventura, Apple introduced an all-new continuous camera feature, which now lets you use your iPhone’s camera as a webcam for your Mac.
The serial camera works wirelessly or wired in front of Zoom and other apps, and delivers video directly from the user’s nearby iPhone camera, which has better quality than the built-in camera in Macs.
However, another function of the Continuity Camera is the ability to use a nearby iPhone as a microphone input for your Mac. As long as your iPhone is running iOS 16 or later signed with Apple ID, you can talk to it and the audio will be delivered seamlessly to your Mac, without video.
The following steps explain how to set it up in macOS Ventura.
- On your Mac, click the Apple () icon in the menu bar and select computer systems….
- Click the sound in the sidebar.
- Under Output and Input, tap Input Unpaid invoice.
- Locate the nearest iPhone listed as Continuity Camera.
The nearby iPhone will beep and display a “Connected to…” screen indicating that the connection has been successfully completed. You can now use your iPhone as a microphone for your Mac.
You can pause the connection at any time with this stop button. When you’re done, click red Disconnect button on your iPhone screen.
