How Tobacco Control Reduces Healthcare Costs

The public money put on the table to encourage the French to quit smoking allows a good “return on investment” according to a study. On average, each euro invested in the fight against tobacco saves 4 euros, estimate experts from the OECD in a report published on Friday.

While a quarter of French people smoke daily, the members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development looked at the anti-smoking policy implemented between 2016 and 2020. Then, they simulated the maintenance of this public policy on years 2023-2050.
