This is what people from Brezovo asked this evening, who gathered in the city center to express their concerns about the closure of the only bank branch in the territory of the municipality. It is closing for good from May 1 as it only has two employees. According to the decision of the financial institution, where there are one or two people left, the branch is closed. As of today, the only ATM is also not working, as it is not loaded.
“Residents of 16 settlements in the municipality have to make their way to Rakovski in order to draw salaries and pensions,” commented Neli Mincheva, local leader of GERB, to “24 Chasa”. According to her, there will be a serious problem with payment. There are farmers in the municipality who operate via banking, and also social benefits are transferred in this way.
“The explanations are that the only ATM could not “support itself” and was at zero. I can’t believe this when I see how the pensioners line up. The bank receives a fee from every withdrawal,” Mincheva commented.
City officials say they are in talks with another bank to open a branch. However, this is still in the realm of promises.
Brezovo is a municipality whose population has been melting for years. For comparison, in the village of Belozem, which is in Rakovski municipality, there are three ATMs, but there the increase is positive.
