Young people from Flevoland who were born between 1996 and 2003 will receive an invitation in the coming period to be vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV).
This vaccine protects against various types of cancer. GGD Flevoland carries out these vaccinations. The target group in Flevoland consists of approximately 15,000 young adults. The vaccination is free.
Only by appointment
Young adults will receive a letter from RIVM about the vaccination in the coming weeks. They make an appointment online, at www.HPVafspraak.nl, it is also possible to make an appointment by telephone via the number: 0800-1608. For those who are unsure about the vaccination, a decision aid is available at www.hpvkeuzehulp.nl. In both cases, keep proof of ID at hand.
GGD Flevoland will start vaccinating against HPV on January 30. Vaccination is possible at three covid vaccination locations spread over the province: Emmeloord, Lelystad and Almere. When making the appointment (online or by phone) you choose the location. Vaccination is only possible with an appointment.
Two vaccinations
Two vaccinations are given. Young people who have had their first vaccination will receive a text message or email after five months to remind them to make a second appointment.
What is HPV?
HPV stands for human papillomavirus. Someone who has the virus usually doesn’t notice it, but it is very contagious. In some cases, an infection can lead to cancer. The vaccination against HPV protects well against six types of cancer, including cervical cancer, penile and anal cancer. HPV can occur in both men and women.
National campaign
Research shows that young adults have little knowledge about the possible consequences of the HPV virus and about the vaccination. On Wednesday 11 January a national campaign was launched with the slogan: Protected against 6 types of cancer with 1 vaccine. Young people are urged to inform themselves well about HPV and the vaccination. They can use the website for this: www.hpvkeuzehulp.nl
