The Moldovan authorities refused to let Alexander Brod, a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of Russia, into the country. He was heading for the elections in Transnistria. Also, Russian political scientist Natalya Narochnitskaya and representative of the Public Chamber Vladimir Zhuravlev were not allowed into Moldova.
Mr. Brod said that he was informed about the ban on entering the country at the Chisinau airport. “At the passport control at the airport they took away the passport and took them to a room with no sign on the door. Mr. Brod claims to have spent five hours at the airport before flying to Moscow. According to him, they “could not really explain” the decision to him. He expressed the opinion that “Russophobia” has intensified in Moldova.
Presidential elections will be held in Transnistria on December 12. Chisinau does not recognize the elections and asks partners not to send observers.
