HSV – The big discussion: What else can you expect from the club? – 2nd Bundesliga

by time news

Tim Walter (46) initiated the topic before the game in Karlsruhe. The HSV coach: “The main problem is that you misjudge the situation.”

Wrongly rated – by this Walter means the (too?) High expectations around the club from his point of view. After the 1: 1 at KSC, the discussion is even hotter: What can you expect from HSV?

► No second division has been unbeaten for as long (ten games) as HSV. However: Seven of the ten games ended in a draw. On the first 13 match days, they parted eight times with draws. The club “managed” only twice in its long professional career since 1963: 1995/96 and 2006/07.

► HSV gambled away ten points after taking the lead. Against Dresden (1: 1 after 1: 0), Darmstadt (2: 2 after 2: 1), Düsseldorf, Kiel and now again in Karlsruhe (1: 1 after 1: 0 each), the Walter team lost the three. Three times in the past four duels.

The result: After 13 appearances, HSV is seventh with 20 points. Five points behind a direct promotion place. Since the third matchday, the club has been between sixth and tenth place. Mediocre.

Is that really good enough? What does HSV have to deliver?

On the one hand, the club is one of the largest traditional clubs in Germany. Spectator and media magnet.

But also in descent for eleven years. In 2010 HSV was still in twelfth place in the UEFA five-year ranking, one place ahead of Real Madrid. In autumn 2021, Hamburg will be seventh in the 2nd division. Worse than Regensburg, Paderborn and Darmstadt.

You could say: For a club with a past and a staff budget of over 20 million euros, a return to the Bundesliga must be the goal. Everything else is a disappointment.

Many viewers apparently see it similarly in the fourth year of the second division. This is shown by the reactions and the whistles at the last home games. The dissatisfaction in the stands in the Volksparkstadion was even discussed among the opponents.

For years, many HSV professionals have been talking internally about the great pressure. Schalke is having the same experience right now. In addition, the opponents have a special motivation against the big clubs.

Hamburgers find it difficult to cope with this. Possibly also because many of the players in the squad don’t even have that special level. Accordingly, one would have to lower expectations …

In Karlsruhe, HSV was well served with the point in the end. The professionals also admitted that.

Captain Sebastian Schonlau (27): “We have to accept the draw – especially when you look at the distribution of chances.”

Midfield organizer Jonas Meffert (27): “Karlsruhe played very aggressively and created good chances. We defended ourselves and also had good chances. But we couldn’t do more this time.”

In fact, Hamburg was under a lot of pressure at KSC. The HSV defensive has not had to accept 22 shots on goal in any other game this season.

In addition, the Hamburgers expanded their luck record. The post shot (80th) by Marvin Wanitzek (28) was already the ninth opposing aluminum hit. League record.

HSV found it difficult to cope with Karlsruhe’s style of play. Walter: “It was difficult for us to get in because the opponent only acted with long balls.”

KSC trainer Christian Eichner (38): “We deliberately transported the ball very easily into the opposing half. We wanted to bring the opponent into a world in which they don’t feel comfortable. In a world in which we are better. .. “
